Alasdair
White
An award-winning fiddler from an early age,
Alasdair comes from the Isle of Lewis, one
of the Gaelic speaking Outer Hebrides where
music and culture remain strong daily forces.
In these past few years, his musicianship
and writing have had a great influence on
Battlefield Band’s repertoire and
continuing success, and playing with them
has given him the wider audience that his
music deserves.
He's
not really a guest in this case, as the
band are co-hosting the event along with
Newbattle Abbey. Alasdair will be appearing
with Battlefield Band and teaching at the
fiddle workshops. You can watch a video
below and find out more about him at

'White
comes from Lewis and plays with a muscular
gracefulness that confirms the strong influence
of the piping tradition . He also recalls
the sweet attack of Irish fiddlers like
Paddy Glackin at times and there's a touch
of Breton verve in there, as well as the
Gaelic song tradition flavouring his lovely
waltzes. ...the best thing to come out of
Stornoway this side of Charlie MacLeod's
black pudding.'
Glasgow Herald
'This
solo debut is a devastating statement
of intent in which White breathes life
into his Gaelic culture. His playing is
astonishing... ...An Clar Geal is sprinkled
with genius'
Andy Richardson
